Made in Yorkshire make the headlines

BBC Look North joined more than 60 manufacturers to help promote Made in Yorkshire, the new networking group for Yorkshire’s manufacturing community.

Jason Pitt, CEO said, “The ‘Made in’ brand has been very successful in the Midlands where it was founded in 2009, Yorkshire is a fantastic area for us to invest in. You would have to search hard and long to find a region more patriotic than Yorkshire.”

Sophie Whittingham is heading up the membership team for Yorkshire, she is a former graduate of the University of Leeds and has worked for sister company Made in the Midlands for 3 years. Sophie also completed the Warwick Manufacturing Group course on manufacturing processes, to help gain further insight into industry.

This commitment to focussing on the broad manufacturing sector differentiates Made in Yorkshire from other groups.

Made in Yorkshire is also unique because of its digital platform, built on the highly valuable domain which has thousands of search results each month, the site acts as a hub for the manufacturing community to engage and market themselves.

Jason continues, “We are more than a networking group, want to help build a digital legacy for Great British industry. We are doing this by adding a strong tech dimension to the traditional membership offering. Made in Yorkshire members get their own space on the site which can evolve into dozens of pages, depending on how active they are.

“The platform is a complete marketing suite for manufacturing firms, members can microblog, advertise on each others pages, message other members, download resources, improve their SEO and be the first to know what is going on in their region.”

The launch event was held at Carnegie stadium in Leeds and attended by founding members.

Made in Yorkshire is now looking to establish a council made up from members who will meet quarterly, to help steer the direction of Made in Yorkshire, improve the offering for members and improve the perception of manufacturing to the wider community and young people.
